Rung Hunt is a two-to-five minute daily word puzzle with a twist: you know where you start but not where you are going.

Each day everyone gets the same 4-letter starting word. Somewhere a few rungs away is a hidden 4-letter goal word. Change one letter at a time, and every rung must be a real word. After each rung you learn how many of your letters are exact (right letter, right spot) and how many are near (in the word, wrong spot), but not which ones. Reason it out, climb, and land on the goal in as few moves as you can. Every puzzle has a par, the shortest possible ladder.

Stuck? Reveal a letter for a two-move penalty. The answer lives on the server, never in the chat or the page, so nobody can peek and every score is honest.
